Mirror Mirror On The Wall: Reflections of the Blog.

"Yeah, Im a blogger."

Granted, it doesn't steal the show at Thanksgiving dinner quite as well as "...I walked on the moon...", but its still pretty cool.

And what is even cooler is that this new, more free-form, impulsive kind of writing is starting to re-kindle the spark for writing I used to have. My creative writing has, until now, been taken over by many a dark, dreary, five paragraph, MLA formatted papers. I know blogging has been compared to extreme sports as opposed to their more "regulated" counterparts, but id go as far as to say blogging is the Egg McMuffin of writing. (If you haven't seen that commercial, go waste some time and sit in front of the tube so you can be up to date with my brilliant references)

The worst part of writing is finishing a whole paper, thinking its worthy of being read by the likes of the most interesting man in the world, and then having someone edit it and tell you its unorganized, too wordy and unclear. With a blog, that whole problem is erased. Blogging is supposed to be off the top of your head, and it can be left up to the commenters to tell you whats wrong with it. But unlike formal writing where criticism sucks, on a blog, it might just spawn a discussion (between many people) that leads to new ideas and more understanding of an issue.

And with that, dear reader, I leave you to go Stumble, and discover more awesome things (like blogging) that the internet age is providing me. The literate me, that is.

  1. I'd have to think that everyones creative writing has been dormant because high school administrators love to love what every student hates. its their job. as for your brilliant metaphor of blogging being the Egg McMuffin of writing, id have to agree, good connection.

  2. I definitely agree with your thoughts on writing papers and getting them edited, it really isn't fun, even if its supposedly "constructive criticism" - that is the beauty of blogging. I have to agree with Sam on the Egg McMuffin metaphor - those are the greatest!
