Hmm..On the Contrary

This is a tough post. It seems like it should just be reading a given blog post as a rough draft and revising it into a final copy. But, for whatever reason, it doesnt seem to work that smoothly in blogging. When I blog, I pride myself on the fact that what I write first is what stays. I dont generally think too much about writing entrys in a way such that they can be revised.

If I needed to revisit one post, however, It would probably be the most recent one on "countering". At first, I was thinking of countering as tool used solely in writing, as opposed being used in conversation to push forward a discussion. People counter every day-- thats how discussions last longer than 2 sentences. (Kids, take notes for first dates. Use countering throughout the awkward dinner and it fly right by) I mean I guess everybody could agree on everything...but how fun would that be?

I suppose I didnt necessarily understand the whole idea of countering while writing that first post, seeing as I said that the Onion doesn't use all too much countering. On second thought, it seems they absolutely do. They present a biased and satirical side of a story which is just the thing to push the discussion forward. They (although not always in a completly truthful way) make observations about a story which absolutely provokes discussion. If nothing else, their articles start conversations. The headlines are so absurd that people go up to one another and say, "Did you see that article in the Onion?! HAHAHA" The ensuing conversation doesnt necessarily always relate back to the specific article but at the back of each parties mind, they know at least one side to the story, and how at least some people feel about a given issue.
